Gathering

Gathering is a sewing technique for shortening the length of a strip of fabric so that the longer piece can be attached to a shorter piece.
In simple gathering, parallel rows of running stitches are sewn along one edge of the fabric to be gathered. The stitching threads are then pulled or "drawn up" so that the fabric forms small folds along the threads.

Statement

For our project on pattern, I took photos of New York City and was inspired by the urban life, bold colours, bright lights, graffiti and the art galleries. My idea was to contrast flock patterns with urban graffiti, to create something bold, colourful and exciting.  I found the mark marking class really helped me to develop these patterns. Also, that spray paints and latex really helped to develop my designs and give that urban effect.  I really enjoyed this project as I got to bring in painting skills into the project and play around with fabrics.
